Congratulations on becoming a new homeowner! Here’s a checklist to help you get settled.
Before Moving Day
• Change your address: Notify the post office, banks, credit card companies, insurance providers, and other
important institutions of your new address.
• Utilities: Contact utility companies to set up or transfer service for electricity, gas, water, and waste
removal.
• Insurance: Ensure your homeowner’s insurance policy is in place and covers your new home. Consider
additional coverage for renters insurance if you have any belongings at your previous residence.
• Home inspection: Review the home inspection report to identify any potential issues and address them
before moving in.
• Moving company: If you’re hiring a moving company, make arrangements and confirm the move date and time.
• Packing: Start packing early, labeling boxes clearly, and set aside essentials for the first night.
Moving Day
• Change locks: Change the locks on all exterior doors to ensure your security.
• Final walkthrough: Conduct a final walkthrough of your previous residence with your landlord or property manager to ensure everything is in order.
• Upacking: Unpack essential items and start to settle in.
• Utilities: Verify that all utilities are working properly.
After Moving Day
• Meet your neighbors: Introduce yourself to your neighbors and get to know the community.
• Register to vote: If you haven’t already, register to vote in your new location.
• Update your driver’s license: Update your driver’s license address to reflect your new residence.
• Home maintenance: Create a home maintenance schedule to keep your home in good condition.
• Emergency kit: Assemble an emergency kit with essential supplies in case of unexpected situations.
• Testimonial: Now that you’re all settled, consider reaching out to your MLO and send them a testimonial about your mortgage process experience with PFCU. Testimonials help us help other neighbors!
